Food
If you were to do only 1 thing in Singapore, it would be to eat. This must be the top attraction in Singapore. Some of our favorite foods include:
Hawker Center Food
(any hawker center is usually decent, but here are some of the more famous / touristy ones: Maxwell, Lau Pa Sat, Hong Lim food complex)
- Hainanese Chicken Rice
- Tian Tian is overhyped, but try it and let us know what you think
- Bak Chor Mee (Jonny’s favorite dish - he calls it the ‘vinegar noodles’)
- Hill Street Tai Hwa Pork Noodle Crawford lane is the only 1 michelin star hawker food (which Jonny blames me for never letting him try it)
- Char Kway Teow
- Specifically Outram Park char kway tiao in Hong Lim complex - the only place we would wait 1 hour for
- Laksa (Anne’s favorite dish)
- 328 Katong Laksa used to be great, it’s still good, but not as good as when Gordon Ramsay visited in the past
- Hokkien Mee
- Carrot cake (chai tow kuey) - Anne likes the black more than the white
- Chwee kueh - Anne loves but Jonny does not like the texture of this
- Roti Prata - must eat with curry
- Sugar Cane juice - Jonny thinks the ice is a scam and asks for no ice 😅
- Ice Cream in sliced bread - pretty hard to find these days but you may see some pop-up here and there
Fine Dining
- Odette - our favorite 3-michelin star restaurant in the world!!
- Terra - Japanese-italian - two of our favorite cuisines combined
- Shinji - Omakase
(not) Fine Dining
- Jumbo seafood restaurant - must get the chili crab and mantou
- Violet Oon - upscale peranakan food (Ps. Say it’s a bday celebration and get a free upside down pineapple cake and polaroid)
- Hotpot - Haidilao as a staple, Beauty in the Pot (for their collagen broth), or Coucou (love the unlimited braised pork rice here)
- Dimsum - Canton Paradise, Crystal Jade, Timhowan are staples
- Canton Paradise group - Anne especially likes the spicy wonton noodles from Le Nu
- Din Tai Fung - yes we know it’s Taiwanese but for those people who haven’t tried it yet - TRY IT PLEASE
Breakfast/Cafes/Dessert
- Yakun Cafe - Must try kaya toast and soft boiled eggs for breakfast
- P.S. Cafe - Just look at how thick their chocolate cake is, but we also like their truffle fries and twist on local Singapore food
- McDonalds - for the McSpicy and seasonal flavored items
- Birds of Paradise icecream - love their white chrysanthemum in thyme cone
- Hay gelato - have you ever heard of hay-flavored gelato??
- Apiary icecream
- Tiong Bahru Bakery for croissants
- Bread talk or Four leaves (try the local buns - like kaya bun, red bean bun, pork floss buns)
- Mr. Bean - soybean icecream or soy beancurd
- Lao Ban - Anne likes this soy beancurd
- Janice Wong - for local flavored chocolates
- Too many other cafes / pastry places 🙃
Drinks
Bubble Tea
- Koi - Anne’s most drank local bubble tea
- PlayMade - Anne would drink more if it was closer to where she lived - has unique flavored pearls such as pink cactus pearls
- Chicha San Chen - love love love (but yes it’s from Taiwan)
Bars
- Jigger & Pony - the world’s 14th top bar and is great
- Atlas - looks like you’re in a movie set with that 26 foot tall gin tower
- Native - love their unique Singapore flavors and intimate setting
- Raffles hotel Long bar - For the iconic Singapore Sling experience
- And many more … but we haven’t been in Singapore long enough to try them all!
