Travel Info
Flights
Singapore Changi Airport is one of the best airports in the world (in our opinion - THE best, we’re biased). It is a major hub for flights in Southeast Asia and is a great place to transit as well.
If you're making a trip out of your visit to join us in Singapore and have some time, we highly recommend checking out doing a stopover package with Singapore Airlines (we are!): https://thepointsguy.com/news/how-to-stopovers-singapore-airlines-awards-just-100/
Travel within Singapore
Singapore has a great public transit system including MRT (subway), buses, and taxis. Ride-share is also an option and the most popular apps are Grab, Gojek, and TADA (not Uber!). If you plan on using public transit, you can use ApplePay/GooglePay/SamsungPay or purchase an EZ-Link card at an MRT station that can be used on all public transit.
Weather
Singapore is hot and humid year-round (much to Jonny’s dislike). Pack accordingly.
Accommodation
Our wedding is taking place at the Grand Hyatt Singapore, which is just off of Orchard Road. We recommend staying in this area as it is central and has many shopping and dining options. There are many hotels in the area to choose from, but we recommend booking early as it is a popular area. Ps. there is no Airbnb in Singapore.
If you'd like to stay at the Grand Hyatt, please reach out to us for a 15% discount on market rates.
Money
Most places (malls, restaurants, tourist attractions) take credit card and mobile payments, but some of the hawker centers will need you to pay in cash so we do recommend having a small amount of cash if you plan on going to the local hawker centers!
Sights
- Marina Bay Sands: Foreigners can enter the casino for free, but Singaporean's cannot 🥲
- Gardens By the Bay: Where the night wedding scene from Crazy Rich Asians was filmed
- Changi Jewel - yes it’s actually at the airport but also a great mall with great restaurants
- Botanic Gardens: General entry is free but some exhibitions are ticketed. We recommend checking out the Orchid Garden but be prepared for lots of walking in the heat and possibly mosquitoes.
- Singapore Zoo and Night Safari: Good for kids (and big kids)
- Sentosa: Singapore’s man-made beaches are here - as well as Universal Studios, Aquarium, Luge, and cable cars
- Singapore Flyer: The replica London Eye
- The Merlion: Just because it’s the official mascot of Singapore
- Bird Paradise | Mandai Wildlife Reserve: Not for Anne but go if you must
- Orchard Road: All the shopping you can dream of
- Chinatown: We only ever go to Hong Lim Food Center for Outram Park char kway tiao but otherwise also a touristy spot to visit
- East Coast Park: Where Anne used to sometimes run / walk / play Pokemon Go, but a nice track to walk or bike (would recommend biking in the night from ECP to Gardens by the Bay for a nice scenic route)
- Museums: Anne doesn’t like museums so … no personal recommendations other than the Art Science Museum (for pics) and the Museum of Ice Cream!
- Hikes: If you are brave enough to conquer Singapore’s heat, there are nice hikes around (the southern ridges, MacRitchie trail, Fort Canning Park, Bukit Timah nature reserve), or you can try the coast-to-coast trail (36km) if you’re Charlie and want to run close to a marathon!
- Food and drink - the only thing you should really do in Singapore - so important that we have another tab for this.
